Target Collaboration with Phillip Lim

I, for one, am super excited about the 3.1 Phillip Lim collaboration with Target dropping September 15th in-stores and online. Not only are all the clothes and accessories super chic, but they also won't break my poor-college-girl-living-in-an-overpriced-apartment budget (everything is under $299.99). The line comes with an abundance of great pieces for men and women ranging from great dresses with faux leather accents to the swoon-worthy trench coat.

Here are my favorite pieces from the collection, plus a behind-the-scenes video of the lookbook photo shoot:

Teen Choice Awards 2013

Last night, young stars and starlets alike came out to celebrate at the annual Teen Choice Awards. I however, find it curious to call this award show the "Teen Choice Awards" considering the median age of the attendees is around 28 years old, but no matter. Although I decided sleep was more important than watching the show, I did manage to watch the plethora of well-dressed gals and gents lined up on the blue carpet. Here are some of my favorite fashion moments from last night:

Hailee Steinfeld: House of Henry Resort 2014 Dress
Hailee has proven that she is willing to take fashion risks and her look for the Teen Choice Awards was no exception. The unexpected color combination and the super flattering cut of the dress were perfect on the Romeo and Juliet star. Her Oscar Tiye sandals were a perfect addition to this ladylike ensemble that was one of my favorites of the night.

Holland Roden: Notte by Marchesa Dress
This canary yellow peplum dress on Holland's flawless skin was a heavenly match. Her minimal accessories and nude sandals didn't take away from the dress or her perfect red-orange lip color.

Bella Thorne: Fausto Puglisi Top and Skirt Resort 2014
The Shake It Up actress looked positively adorable in this Puglisi ensemble. I'm glad she chose such a fun outfit with palm tree print to match the laid-back feel of the event. I wish she would have been a bit more daring with her shoe choice, but the black pumps complimented her outfit nicely.

Carly Chaikin: Naeem Kahn Dress
Look at the gams on this girl!!! I haven't seen much of Carly's personal style, but I'm liking what I see so far. I love this dress because it's showing off her killer legs, but the conservative top makes it appropriate for the event. Her soft waves, nude pumps, and minimal makeup go perfectly with this sparkly stunner.

Lea Michele: Oscar de la Renta Resort 2014 Dress
While these girls all rocked their fashionable ensembles my favorite look of the evening would have to go Lea Michele. The Glee made an appearance during the award show to honor Cory Monteith and she's and looked absolutely stunning in her two-tone Oscar de la Renta dress and simple pink pumps. Her most important accessory was a simple silver necklace with Cory's name.
Lea gave a truly beautiful speech to honor her late boyfriend and there wasn't a dry eye in the room, I'm sure.

“Thank you guys. Thank you. I just wanted to be here today to personally thank all of you and tell everyone out there how much your love and support has meant to me over these very past few difficult weeks. Not that I had any doubt before, but you guys are most certainly the greatest fans in the world and I wanted to dedicate this award to Cory. For all of you out there who loved and admired Cory as much as I did, I promise that with your love we’re going to get through this together. He was very special to me and also to the world. We were very lucky to witness his incredible talent, his handsome smile, and his beautiful beautiful heart. So whether you knew him personally or just as Finn Hudson, Cory reached out and he became a part of all of our hearts and that’s where he will stay forever. So thank you guys so much. Thank you.”

Let me know who stood out to you most at the 2013 Teen Choice Awards!

FIDM Facts

As I mentioned before, I cannot wait to attend FIDM in the Fall. So I figured I would share with you some of the basic information about the school and why it was the right choice for me!
  • The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising was established in 1969 by Tonian Hohberg.
  • There are four different campus locations, San Diego, San Francisco, Orange County, and Los Angeles with 7,500 students spread out among them.
  • There are 20 majors with a 2-year Associate of Arts degree as well as a Professional Designation program.
  • Classes start every quarter so the admission is year-round rolling.
  • Study Tours and Exchange Programs in major fashion cities across the globe.
  • 90% of graduates find jobs in the fashion industry within six months of graduating.

I had to really make sure I was 100% in love with FIDM for making the commitment of moving 2,000 miles away from home and spending a good chunk of change. I really wanted to get a feel for each of the different cities to see which was a perfect fit. Lucky for me, I was able to visit three of them. In the end, Los Angeles was definitely my favorite. I loved the atmosphere and all the instructors I met.

Here are my top five reasons for choosing FIDM:
1) Location, Location, Location! I believe there are only a handful of places where a person can be successful in the fashion industry, Los Angeles is one of them.

2) All of the instructors at FIDM are currently employed in the fashion industry along with teaching. They know first hand how the fashion industry works.

3) My major (Visual Communication) immediately caught my attention. It taught such a wide variety of skills needed to work in various parts of the entertainment industry.

4) The industry connections FIDM has are outstanding! Many relevant fashion companies are hiring FIDM grads.

5) Everyone attending the school loves fashion just as much as me! :)

Let me know if you have any questions about FIDM or if you'd like a post to breakdown the three campuses I visited.
